PRIMARY PURPOSE: Assist school personnel with parent and community relations and communication in such a way to facilitate achievement of school’s goals
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Texas Paraprofessionanl Certificate or ability to obtain upon hire
- Must meet 1 of 3 following criteria as required by NCLB:
- Associate's degree, OR
- 60 credit hours from an accredited institution of higher learning, OR
- Successful completion of basic written exam
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Ability to work well with adults, parents, and community representatives
- Ability to work well with children
- Abilityt to use/learn basic computer applications
- Knowledge of general office equipment
- Effective communication skills (written and verbal) in English
- Ability to speak Spanish preferred
Minimum Experience:
- Experience working with children/students or parents
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Contact parents in a systematic manner with positive information about the school
- Maintain confidentiality of information
- Assist in communicating a positive image of the school
- Make contact with and share school communications with neighborhood apartment managers and businesses to improve community relations
- Coordinate translation of campus documents into Spanish for distribution to parents/guardians who do not read English
- Assist teachers, administrators, and paraprofessionals in working with parents and students as needed
- Serve as a member of the Multicultural Committee and make recommendations as needed
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical/Mental Demands: Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Occasional prolonged and irregular hours. May occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
Safety: Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
