Primary Purpose:
Ensure building and grounds are cleaned by using routine procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification
High School Diploma
GED or 3-4 years of experience required
Special Knowledge/Skills
Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures
Aptitude for successful completion of tasks
Demonstrated ability to coordinate personnel to accomplish tasks
Broad knowledge of school housekeeping and minor repair techniques
Ability to operate and train in cleaning equipment and the proper use of cleaning supplies
Ability to speak, read and write English
Bilingual Spanish, preferred
Experience
Six months custodial services experience, preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Custodial Management
Work cooperatively with principals and supervisors to ensure a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations.
Daily coordinate and plan with the Custodian Building Manager to determine building needs.
Supervise custodial staff, oversee team cleaning, and ensure daily cleaning of buildings and grounds.
Provide training and orientation to custodians related to cleaning procedures and the safe and proper use of chemicals and equipment.
Maintenance and Inspection
Inspect buildings for: graffiti; broken/cracked windows; damaged exterior doors; cracked/loose bricks; plugged down spouts; and foundation concerns. Report, repair, and/or clean as appropriate.
Inspect building interior and gym for damaged, missing, or broken: hardware, partitions, ceiling tiles, structural ceiling, floor, wall tile, entrance doors, carpet or floor tile, cabinet hinges, boards, and closet doors. Report, repair, and/or clean as appropriate.
Assist in performing preventive maintenance to ensure comfort, health, and safety for students and staff.
Assist in maintaining a cleaning supplies and equipment inventory and request supplies as needed.
Other
In the absence of the Building Manager, assume manager duties and work schedule.
Respond in a timely manner when contacted regarding urgent situations or emergencies (during or outside of normal business hours)
Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible; and serve as a role model for staff, students, and public
Perform other duties as assigned.
Safety
Assist with opening and closing building as assigned, checking to ensure that exit doors are open and panic bolts are working properly during hours of occupancy. Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.
Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.
Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform duties, including lifting, and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
