Primary Purpose:  On a part-time basis, the Office Clerk performs clerical job duties as needed and assigned in all areas of the F&NS Department.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum Education/Certification: 

 

High School Diploma or GED required; higher education preferred.

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Perform clerical office duties as assigned

Strong customer service, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.

Proficient skills in word processing and data entry.

Ability to multi-task and prioritize; handle office matters as they arise in an expeditious,

   proactive and professional manner.

Ability to use district and department software programs with reasonable assistance to

   perform job duties and responsibilities.

Possess a valid Texas Class C driver’s license; must have personal vehicle and be willing

   to drive it for department purposes (mileage will be reimbursed).

Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

 

Minimum Experience

One-year general clerical/secretarial experience or other equivalent experience or 

   background strongly preferred.

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Answers multi-line telephone and provides assistance to callers as needed, takes reliable messages or forwards call appropriately.
  2. Provides excellent customer service by assisting customers and visitors to the Food & Nutrition Services central offices at the Sally Elliott Administrative Annex by greeting and directing them to the appropriate person or meeting location in the building.
  3. Communicates effectively, professionally and following established state and District policies and procedures in all interactions.
  4. Performs clerical duties as assigned up to and including scheduling interviews, preparing the interview location and assisting with the oversight of interview testing.
  5. Contributes to the success of the Food & Nutrition Services Department by completing special projects and assignments and assisting other department personnel as needed.
  1. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Equipment Used:  Telephone, Computer/peripherals, copier, 10-key calculator, scanner, laminators, etc.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:  None

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:   Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Use of personal vehicle for in-district and occasional in-state travel. Prolonged sitting and repetitive hand motions. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.

 

Safety: Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
