Primary Purpose:

Assist in performing mechanically-related activities required to maintain the District’s heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems.  Routinely clean and lubricate HVAC equipment, replace filters, and ensure equipment operates efficiently.   

 

Qualifications:
Education/Certification


High School Diploma or GED, preferred

Valid Texas Class C driver’s license and proof of insurability with District insurance carrier


Special Knowledge/Skills


Desire to learn preventative maintenance 

Ability to assist with HVAC preventative maintenance, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical trades

Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions

Ability to work cooperatively in a team

Ability to set and dismantle ladders, scaffolding, and other equipment 

Ability to use hand and power tools

Effective organizational, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills

Ability to utilize technology resources relevant to position

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Maintenance and Repair


Receive and perform daily assignments required to assist in accomplishing work in an effective and efficient manner. 
Provide assistance to HVAC mechanics and other trades staff when needed.
Assist with preventative maintenance activities to keep equipment and systems performing properly.    
Inspect and confirm that all assignments are completed before leaving job sites.
Set ladders, scaffolding, and other equipment at work site and dismantle when work is completed.
Assist in performing preventative maintenance activities including but not be limited to: inspecting, cleaning, lubricating, adjusting and replacing belts, filters, pulleys, drain pains, as well as work to ensure maximum operating capacities of exhaust fans and drinking fountains.

Respond in a timely manner  when contacted regarding urgent situations or emergencies (during or outside of normal business hours)
Exhibit behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible; and serve as role model for staff and public.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Safety

Observe job sites for occupants and remain aware of potential dangers that could cause injury.
Practice a high standard of safety and site cleanup in the performance of all duties.
Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
