JOB TITLE: Gifted and Talented/Advanced Academics Coordinator
WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt

PAY GRADE: Admin/Prof 04 (220 Days)
DEPARTMENT: Gifted and Advanced Academics
This position is eligible for a Chapter 21 contract.
PRIMARY PURPOSE: To coordinate the development, implementation, and evaluation of gifted and talented services; assist in the selection, supervision, and professional growth of classroom teachers of gifted and talented and advanced academics students. Promote equity and excellence for historically underserved groups in gifted education and advanced academics.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
- Master's Degree
- Valid Texas State Board of Educator Teacher Certificate
- Valid Texas State Board of Educator Gifted and Talented Certification and/or 12 graduate hours specific to Gifted and Talented
- Valid Texas State Board of Educator English as a Second Language (preferred)
- Valid Texas State Board of Educator Principal or Mid – Management (preferred)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Specific knowledge of curriculum development and vertical and horizontal alignment of PK- 12 curriculum

- Know ledge of identification and assessment of gifted learners
- Knowledge of methods, materials, and curriculum for gifted learners

- Specific knowledge of the state and national policies and procedures for gifted learners
Minimum Experience:
- At least three (3) years successful teaching experience as a gifted and talented classroom teacher
- Experience with curriculum development and/or professional development
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Support gifted and talented classroom teachers in the implementation of gifted and talented curriculum and instructional strategies
- Assist teachers in the gifted and talented program with instructional planning, classroom management procedures, record-keeping, diagnostic procedures, and improving methodology, etc., especially teachers new to the system
- Regularly monitor the instructional processes to ensure that the program activities are related in the accomplishment of the program goals
- Collaborate with other instructional coordinators to develop and align (vertically & horizontally) PK- 12 curriculum
- Coordinate ongoing development and refinement of curriculum scope and sequence that results in student mastery of state, national, and college and career readiness standards
- Facilitate implementation of gifted curriculum
- Suggest methods, procedures and/or new programs for implementing the gifted curriculum and advanced academics
- Facilitate and encourage the use of the data team process to improve student achievement in gifted and advanced academics
- Collaborate with the Professional Development Department to plan and conduct workshops, conferences, and teacher training institutes to introduce new methods and procedures to improve the quality of instruction and delivery of the approved curriculum
- Select, develop and evaluate district assessments
- Collaborate with the Division Director of Curriculum and Instruction and in the evaluation and selection of state adopted textbooks and other curriculum materials
- Work with Special Education coordinators to design services to meet the needs of twice exceptional students
- Keep the Division Director of Specialized Learning Services informed concerning pertinent aspects of the gifted and talented program and advanced academics
- Serve on relevant district committees and task forces
- Facilitate two-way communication to and from the school, concerning all aspects of school and District programs, policies, and other issues impacting student achievement and success, especially gifted and advanced academics
- Work cooperatively with members of the instructional department
- Communicate with other administrative departments and Board of Trustees regarding gifted services
- Assist in the development, communication, and implementation of the District Improvement Plan
- Coordinate and disseminate workshop information and encourage participation in professional development opportunities that lead to the completion of required gifted and talented and training
- Assist in the development, communication, and implementation of goals, objectives, procedures, and mission statements as specified in the gifted and talented policies and procedures
- Support campuses in the implementation of gifted and talented curriculum and instruction strategies to increase student achievement
- Assist teachers in designing their plans to complete the state required gifted and talented professional development
- Facilitate implementation of gifted and talented/advanced academics enrichment programs such as: DestiNation ImagiNation, Camp Invention etc.
- Assist in the development of the gifted and advanced academics budget
- Appropriately allocate gifted and advanced academics funds throughout the school year
- Make recommendations to schools on appropriate resources to support the gifted and advanced academics instructional programs
- Assist campus gifted and talented building committee in the identification process for the gifted and talented program and in monitoring academic achievement of identified students
- Support access to PreAP and AP courses for historically underrepresented students
- Participate in professional development and training programs and/or professional associations to ensure continued district program improvement
- Participate in professional organizations, disseminate ideas and information to other professionals and provide leadership in identifying trends and opportunities related to gifted and talented and advanced academics education
- Communicate the district’s mission, instructional philosophy and curriculum implementation strategies to parents and interested members of the community
- Submit information about newsworthy events and the gifted and talented program to the Communications Department
- Join, participate in and work on committees associated with appropriate professional organizations
- Participate in community activities to the extent feasible and appropriate that foster rapport and mutual respect between the district and community
- Stay abreast on current research and practices in gifted education and advanced academics
- Abide by the Texas Educators Code of Ethics
- Other duties as assigned by the Division Director of Specialized Learning Services

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Frequent in-district and occasional in-state or national travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
Safety: Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
