PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

Support student, staff, and community access to digital and learning resources. Provide services and resources that encourage students to develop information literacy, digital literacy, and digital citizenship skills. Foster a culture of literacy and promote pleasure-reading activities that inspire the development of life-long readers. Integrate STEM experiences with instructional content to foster student creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving. Serve as teacher and resource expert to involve the library and its resources in the instructional programs of the schools served.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 

 

  1. Effectively plan and administer library programs to meet district goals.
  2. Train students and staff on how to locate, evaluate, and use library print and premium digital resources for a variety of purposes.
  3. Maintain and implement knowledge of best practices in school libraries, trends in research, digital literacy, and digital citizenship.
  4. Promote a culture of literacy.
  5. Facilitate the acquisition of information literacy and STEM skills by implementing lessons that enhance grade-level curriculum.
  6. Implement pedagogical methods and strategies to support student learning.
  7. With support from Library Services, select print resources that adhere to board policy, align with curriculum, and reflect diverse points of view.
  8. Regularly attend monthly director-led librarian PLC meetings and other district training as required.
  9. Provide safe, attractive, and user-friendly environments that promote a positive learning climate
  10. Demonstrate a positive relationship with students, teachers, and the school communities.
  11. Serve as an innovative problem-solver, and model of life-long learning for campuses served.
  12. Model standards of conduct, monitor student behavior and respond to student misbehavior appropriately.
  13. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible; adhere to the Professional Code of Ethics and all district policies.
  14. Comply with and support all district and local campus routines, policies, and regulations.
  15. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education, and the local board in the area of library services including but not limited to copyright and censorship.
  16. Perform other duties as directed by the Digital and Learning Resources Director.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem-solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Occasional in-district travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.

 

Safety:

Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
