PRIMARY PURPOSE: Under general direction, provide for a safe and secure school environment, foster an optimal learning environment and act as a deterrent to unsafe or poor behavior by patrolling the campus, enforcing school and District policies, monitoring security cameras, monitoring visitors, and reporting unsafe or unhealthy conditions. Patrol and monitor assigned school campus to provide security and protection to students, personnel, equipment, and property; maintain campus security and protect District property against illegal entry and fire; enforce regulations and respond to emergency situations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
· 3-5 years in Law Enforcement “or”
· 3-5 years in armed security (Level III Security Certificate) “or”
· 3-5 years in active-duty military
· Texas DPS-Issued valid License to Carry, required
· Bachelor’s degree, preferred
· Bilingual: Fluent in English and Spanish, preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills
· Knowledge of emergency operations planning.
· Knowledge of NIMS and FEMA.
· Knowledge of health and safety programs and applicable laws.
· Working knowledge of security-related technology (security cameras, video exporting, access control systems, telecommunications, etc.).
· Strong public relations, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
· Exceptional work ethic, self-initiative and attention to detail.
· Excellent judgment and the ability to make sound, reasonable decisions while under pressure.
· Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills, including in the context of fact-gathering, investigation of incidents and drafting informational reports.
· Pass a standard fitness exam annually.
· Obtain a passing score (90% +) on a pistol qualification course bi-annually.
· Pass a psychological evaluation upon hire and every two years.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
· Patrol and monitor the campus and surrounding areas to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff, and the security of the facility.
· Display ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school.
· Promote student responsibility for behavior and attitude by serving as a role model and dressing and grooming professionally. Wear District designated attire in a presentable manner during assigned work hours.
· Assist the staff, police, and emergency personnel in handling emergencies or disruptive situations.
· Assist visitors with directions and securing proper identification. Intercept unauthorized visitors and escort them to exits.
· Notify the building administration, police, and/or appropriate emergency personnel of any emergency, potentially dangerous or unusual situations.
· Notify immediately appropriate personnel of evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide or individuals appearing to be under the influence of alcohol, or controlled substances.
· Participate in appropriate in-service training and workshop programs.
· Follow safety protocols and emergency procedures.
· Maintain campus security and protect district property against vandalism, illegal entry, and theft, check buildings and grounds for security, and unauthorized visitors.
· Initiate contact with individuals on school grounds to assure visitor authorization.
· Inspect and monitor the security of doors, windows, and gates.
· Effectively communicate and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work.
· Perform any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by their supervisor, and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.

Safety: Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
