JOB TITLE: Early Childhood Blended Instructional Aide                              

LENGTH OF WORK YEAR:  187 days

REPORTS TO:  Principal                                            

PAY GRADE:  Paraprofessional 035

DEPARTMENT:  Assigned Campus

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Assist the classroom teacher to provide for the physical and instructional needs of students. Assist in the implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, personal care needs, behavior management, and instruction. Work under the general supervision of the principal and the immediate direction of a certified teacher.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Minimum Education/Certification:   

  • Educational Aide I Paraprofessional Certificate
  • High School Diploma or GED

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Ability to work well with children
  • Proficient communication skills
  • Ability to operate computer using a variety of basic applications
  • Knowledge of general office equipment
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred in some settings

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Work with individual students or small groups to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher
  2. Assist teachers in providing modified instruction for students in inclusive settings
  3. Assist with the administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments

  4. Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom

  5. Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students

  6. Assist in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports

  7. Assist in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays Early Childhood Blended Instructional Aide

  8. Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom

  9. Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of classroom equipment

  10. Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events, as required

  11. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers

  12. Serve as an interpreter in situations when one is needed

  13. Assist special needs students with individual tasks as may be required, but not limit to, transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, positioning, feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene

  14. Assist students with activities of personal care which can including diapering, toileting, and/or dressing

  15. Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students

  16. Assist in managing the behavior of students and crisis intervention

  17. Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, emotional, and/or safety needs through training and/or teacher direction

  18. Any other duties as assigned by Campus Principal.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Frequent in-district and occasional in-state or national travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.

Posture: Prolonged siting and standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

 

Motion: Frequent walking; repetitive computer work with frequent use of hands and wrists

 

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment

Safety: Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to the supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
