Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Under general supervision, performs inspections and maintenance of fire alarm and suppression systems for compliance with district policies/procedures and local, state, and federal regulations and standards to ensure the environmental health and safety of students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Provides guidance and consultation to contractors, and other technical personnel regarding fire alarm and suppression systems, fire extinguishers, fire safety inspections, and other related issues. 

                                           

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Minimum Education/Certification: 

 

High School Diploma or GED equivalent form an accredited Institution required.                              

                                                           

  • Possess a valid Texas Class C driver’s license and prove insurability with the district’s insurance carrier.
  • Texas State Fire Alarm Technician license preferred,
  • Knowledge in Fire Alarms troubleshooting.

 

 

Minimum Experience:  3 years job experience, preferably in a school setting.



MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

  • Assist the Lead Fire Alarm Electronics Lead in maintaining the integrity of Public Address Systems, laminators, and fire extinguishers in the IISD schools.
  • Maintain files and inventories of work orders and parts.
  • Work with all levels of personnel.
  • Utilize time in such a manner that will allow accomplishment of job goal.
  • Must be able to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Assist lead fire alarm Technician in repair of fire alarm systems and periodical inspections of same.
  • Practice high standards of safety in the performance of all duties.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Fire Alarm Electronics Lead or as directed by supervisors within the line of authority in the Facilities Department.
  • Maintain the automatic fire alarm and sprinkler systems. 
  • Operate, test, and/or repair fire alarm and suppression systems. 
  • Detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel. 
  • Read and interpret blueprints and shop drawings related to fire alarm and suppression systems. 

Abide by all IISD policies and procedures as outlined in IISD auxiliary employee handbook. 

  • Assume responsibility for safe operation and care of assigned service vehicle, tools, and equipment. 
  • Assume responsibility for personal timecard. 
  • Coordinate, organize and complete daily assignments assuming responsibility for proper documentation regarding assigned tasks, work orders and procurement of supplies.

  • Position may require overtime, as necessary to maintain function of District facilities. 
  • Position will respond to service calls in a timely manner while serving on-call duty, as necessary to maintain function of District facilities.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSBILITIES: 

 

  • No supervisory responsibilities.

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

                                              

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors :   Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Frequent in-district and occasional in-state or national travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.

 

Ability to lift and carry 55 or more pounds without assistance; continual moderate lifting and carrying (15-55 pounds); occasional reaching above shoulder level; continuous use of fingers; continual standing and walking; frequent bending and stopping; ability to climb ladders; and frequent operation of a motor vehicle; ability to distinguish basic colors.

 

Ability to work outdoors and indoors; occasional need to work above and below ground; exposure to heat, cold and humidity; exposure to asbestos containing materials, grease and oils, solvents, and electrical energy; and exposure to machinery with moving parts.

 

Safety:  Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
