JOB DESCRIPTION

 

JOB TITLE:              District Technician I               WAGE/HOUR STATUS:  Nonexempt                   

REPORTS TO:         Director of Technical              PAY GRADE:  IT 2 - 230 Days

PRIMARY PURPOSE:  Install, test and configure commercially developed district software and operating systems for both Microsoft Windows and Apple operating systems and assist in the evaluation of district hardware and software for district users. Support Central office staff and campus technicians.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Minimum Education/Certification: 

  • High School diploma or equivalent with relevant experience
  • Associate’s Degree or higher with major coursework in computer science, telecommunications, management information systems or electronic engineering preferred
  • Current Microsoft certification MTA Windows OS Fundamentals preferred or willingness to complete current industry certification requirements within two (2) years

 

            Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Apple hardware/software systems, TCP/IP networking, security software, Active Directory, Group Policies and application servers, including SCCM
  • Ability to comprehend technical manuals, procedural documentation and OEM guides
  • Ability to recognize, analyze and resolve network problems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent software and hardware troubleshooting skills

 

Minimum Experience

Three (3) years of experience in laptop/desktop and peripheral repair in both wired and wireless environments, preferably in an educational institution.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

  1. Maintain and repair computers, printers, and other related hardware equipment.
  2. Assist on a help desk for employees to call for computer-related questions.
  3. Troubleshoot all computer network problems and independent system problems, including administration and campuses.
  4. Address all request for technical support; determine the extent of the problem and recommend solution to the user; provide information on vendors who can provide the service needed.
  5. Maintain a familiarity with the software used in the district; Troubleshoot software problems; Install new software on systems as requested.
  6. Provide physical labor for extensive setup including unboxing, wiring, cabling, and hardware setup.
  7. Maintain technical skills concurrent with applicable technology as required for successful job performance.
  8. Troubleshoot hardware and software compatibility issues.
  9. Consult with users and collaborate with other departments to ensure successful district project implementation.
  10. Communicates on a regular basis with supervisor about current district projects.
  11. Demonstrates positive customer service relationships. Perform other duties as directed by the Director of Technical Services

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:   Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Ability to work under stress and to respond rapidly and decisively to district technology issues.  Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Frequent in-district and occasional out-of-district travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.  Ability to check and/or install district systems.

 

           

Safety:  Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
