JOB DESCRIPTION

 

 

JOB TITLE:              Library Clerk                                       WAGE/HOUR STATUS:  Nonexempt

 

REPORTS TO:         Principal                                              PAY GRADE:  Salary Schedule 030

                                                                                                                           (187 Days)

 

 

 

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:       Assist the librarian with effective management of the library, both instructional and clerical. Provide access to a well-organized, smoothly functioning library environment in which teachers, students, and community can take full advantage of the available resources.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Minimum Education/Certification: 

  • Educational Secretary I Paraprofessional Certificate
  • High School Diploma or GED

 

            Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Proficient skills in basic mathematics or accounting
  • Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to operate computer using a variety of basic applications
  • Ability to effectively use district programs with reasonable assistance
  • Bilingual English/Spanish speaker preferred

 

Minimum Experience

  • One (1) year clerical/secretarial experience or other equivalent experience or background
  • Experience working with children/students or parents

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

  1. Supervise the operation of the library circulation system following best practice established by the district
  2. Manage delivery of materials between campus and Instructional Center
  3. Shelve incoming books, materials, and equipment in order to keep materials available to users
  4. Supervise students and assist librarian and teacher to maintain student behavior and maintant an orderly atmosphere
  5. Supervise library operation when librarian is teaching in classrooms or at a planning meeting
  6. Provide individual instruction and assistance in using library resources including computers, audiovisual equipment, and databases.
  7. Under the director of the librarian, assist with individual and small group activities
  8. Manage daily procedures in relation to user’s requests for interlibrary loan of materials between campuses
  9. Receive and process books, materials, and equipment and reconcile with packing slips and invoices
  10. Maintain records of lost materials and prepare parent/teacher notification as needed.
  11. Process lost book payments and reimbursements according to district guidelines
  12. Distribute and dispatch materials from/to other library resources, including, but not limited to, Instruction Center, other district libraries, public library, etc.
  13. Under the direction of the librarian, prepare bulletin boards/displays and assist the librarian in preparing instructional materials
  14. Assist in the regular inventory and weeding of the library materials
  15. Maintain and repair books, magazines, materials, and equipment. Process for repair by district maintenance staff as needed
  16. Assist librarian in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports
  17. Assist with the training of volunteers, including student, parent, and other community members
  18. Assist with library events such as book fairs, author visits, award ceremonies, etc.
  19. Answer basic technology related questions especially those that are used in the library
  20. Participate in staff development, faculty meetings, and special duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Prolonged use of computer. Moderate to heavy lifting of materials and equipment up to 30 pounds without assistance.
