Description

Primary Purpose:
Provide quality and timely support to the District’s educational, maintenance, and extracurricular programs by maintaining a well-stocked, rapid response warehousing operation and effective pickup and delivery schedule of parts inventory.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education/Certification

 

High School Diploma or GED 

Forklift Operator Certification preferred

Valid Class C Texas driver’s license and proof of insurability with District insurance carrier

 

Special Knowledge/Skills

 

Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously

Ability to understand and follow detailed written or verbal instructions

Strong public relations, organizational, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills

Ability to perform basic math accurately and quickly

Knowledge of automated inventory and materials handling systems

Ability to operate equipment including but not limited to: medium to heavy duty trucks with standard shift transmissions, pallet jacks, lift gates, electric and gas powered forklifts, two and four wheel dollies

 

Experience

 

Three years clerical or warehouse operations experience, preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Inventory, Receiving, Distribution, and Delivery

      1.     Pull parts and supplies designated in orders and distribute stock as needed.

      2.     Maintain parts inventory by initiating and preparing all purchase requests to maintain stock levels and ensure that standard stock items are always available.

      3.     Locate and distribute parts not maintained in inventory by acting as buyer for operations and maintenance parts.

      4.     Evaluate stock locations for efficiency of pulling and staging orders.

      5.     Assist in inventory control and yearly inventory of the entire warehouse area.

      6.     Accept deliveries from common carriers, inspect for damages, verify accuracy against receiving documentation, and put items away to stock within 24 hours of receiving.

      7.     Stage daily work for delivery staff.

      8.     Ensure vehicles are properly maintained, cleaned, and fueled.

Clerical

      9.     File all documents and reports associated with shipping, receiving, and ordering parts, and process shipping and receiving tickets as needed.

   10.     Respond to phone calls, provide assistance to callers, take reliable messages, route calls to appropriate staff, and assist customers visiting the warehouse office.

   11.     Maintain an organized and clean office, parts warehouse, and help with entire warehouse.

Other  

   12.     Help with Warehouse Clerk and Dock Duties in their Absence.

   13.     Maintain a positive rapport with staff and others and refer problems or concerns to appropriate personnel in a prompt and courteous manner.

   14.     Exhibit behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible, and serve as a role model for staff and public.

   15.     Respond in a timely manner when contacted regarding urgent situations or emergencies (during or outside of normal business hours)

   16.     Perform other duties as assigned.

Safety

   17.     Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals, two-way radio, multi-line phone system, copier, fax machine; small hand tools; medium to heavy duty truck with standard shift transmission, pallet jack, electric and gas powered forklifts, two and four wheel dollies

Posture: Frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions. Keyboarding, and use of mouse; frequent walking, climbing stairs and ladders and scaffolding; grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; visual acuity to distinguish basic colors

Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance, 30-55 pounds with assistance, and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance

Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; exposure to hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, and vibration; work around moving objects and vehicles; work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays, and to have schedule altered with little or no warning
