Primary Purpose:
Under direct supervision, ensure a high degree of protection, safety and security for students, personnel, visitors. and property by monitoring and patrolling hallways and parking areas to reduce the opportunity for theft, vandalism, and destructive activities, and limit unauthorized access to grounds and facilities.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification
High School Diploma or GED, preferred Valid Texas driver’s license and proof of insurability with District insurance carrier Additional certifications in automated external defibrillator (AED), crisis prevention institute (CPI), and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) will be required and training provided by District
Special Knowledge/Skills
Ability to effectively communicate in English and in Spanish, preferred Ability to follow verbal and written instructions Ability to clearly and accurately record information in writing Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations and maintain and exhibit emotional control Ability to work effectively with students from diverse cultures Ability to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays, and to have schedule altered with little or no warning
Experience
Security experience in an educational environment, preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties: Security and Parking 1. Ensure the campus is properly and adequately secured by monitoring student activities in hallways, conducting facility checks and patrolling premises, including parking areas for the presence of unauthorized persons and verify their authority. 2. Alert administrators and the resource officer of the presence of unauthorized persons within campus boundaries. 3. Direct authorized visitors to their proper destination. 4. Report safety and security vulnerabilities (such as fire hazards and unsecured exterior doors) to campus administrators and notify police, fire department, or other appropriate authority of any situation requiring immediate attention. 5. Manage crisis situations as they occur. 6. Admit vehicles with valid parking stickers into student/staff parking areas. Allow no vehicles to be removed during the school day without a properly issued parking lot pass, early release, or work permit, and allow no students in and out of parking area during lunch period. 7. Patrol campus exterior including parking areas for unauthorized persons and vehicles, as well as improperly parked vehicles; and report violations to campus administration. Student Management 8. Report all incidents of student code of conduct violations, including misbehavior and/or damage to district property. 9. Maintain a high level of emotional and physical restraint when dealing with students. 10. Check hall passes and tardy slips of students. Other 11. Maintain daily contact with campus and security administrators by way of radio and/or telephone. 12. Maintain confidentiality of student, personnel and district information. 13. Establish and maintain a professional rapport with resource officers and staff; exhibit behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible; serve as role model and maintain professional standards of conduct with students, personnel, parents, and visitors. 14. Perform other duties as assigned.
Safety 15. Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
