JOB DESCRIPTION

 

JOB TITLE: Professional Learning Coordinator                     LENGTH OF WORK YEAR: 230 days

 

REPORTS TO:  Director of Professional Learning                  PAY GRADE:  Admin/Prof 4

                                                           

DEPARTMENT: Academic Services                                       DATE REVISED:  05/2021

 

 

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:      

                                                                Support the design, development, and implementation of professional learning activities for district staff.

 

                                                Provide job-embedded and ongoing professional learning, including coaching of collaborative teams, and large group training.

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Education:

  • Master’s Degree required
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate
  • ESL Supplement required
  • GT Endorsement preferred
  • Bilingual preferred

 

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • General knowledge of all elementary and secondary curriculum areas
  • Knowledge in design, development, training and implementation of programs
  • Strong organization, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of State and district content standards and knowledge of district school improvement initiatives, including content standards, effective instruction, and assessment practices
  • Skills in collaboration and the use of data to implement needed professional development

 

Qualifications:

  • At least three (3) years of teaching experience in curriculum area; secondary and elementary experience preferred
  • Three (3) years of experience in instructional leadership roles

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

  Instructional Leadership

  1. Support the implementation of curriculum and instructional strategies to increase student achievement
  2. Suggest methods, procedures for implementing professional development at the campus/district level
  3. Assist in securing consultants, specialists, and other community resources for principals, teachers, or the departments of Academic Services and ensure that lodging/transportation needs of special guests are accommodated
  4. Collaborate with Curriculum and Instruction to plan/ conduct workshops and teacher training institutes to introduce new methods and procedures to improve the quality of instruction
  5. Present and/or coordinate professional development programs at both the district and campus      levels, including orientation of new teachers and the Learn2Inspire conference
  6. Work with the Digital Learning Department to facilitate the planning and application in the classroom of emerging technologies and provide on-line professional development

School/Organizational Climate and Improvement:

  1. Facilitate two-way communication to and from the school, concerning all aspects of school and district programs, policies, and other issues impacting student achievement and success
  2. Work cooperatively with all members of the instructional department
  3. Communicate with other administrative departments and Board of Trustees
  4. Assist in the development, communication, and implementation of the District Improvement Plan in order to meet professional development requirements for district and campus goals
  5. Serve on district committees and task forces that pertain to professional development that will impact instruction

Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management:

  1. Collaboratively work with the Director of Professional Learning to plan and expend the allocated assigned funds throughout the school year
  2. Make recommendations to schools on appropriate resources to support the instructional program through professional development

School/Community Relations:

  1. Participate in district/community projects, programs and contests designed to display educational achievement
  2. Interpret school programs for interested community members

Professional Growth and Development:

  1. Stay abreast of current research by practice, by attending conferences, workshops, and reading professional literature
  2. Join, participate in, and work on committees associated with professional organizations

Professional Practices:

  1. Abide by the Professional Code of Ethics
  2. Adhere to all board policies and District administrative procedures

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Physical/Mental Demands:  Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem-solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Ability to coordinate district functions. Must interpret policy, procedures, and data. Frequent lifting and carrying of moderate weight materials. Frequent in-district and occasional in-state or national travel. Frequent prolonged and irregular hours.

 

Safety:  Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
