JOB TITLE: HIPPY Home Instructor WAGE/HOUR STATUS: NON-EXEMPT
REPORTS TO: HIPPY Coordinator PAY GRADE: Paraprofessional 030 (176 days)
POSITION ASSIGNEMENT: 4 Year Term

A Letter of Assurance will be issued for this position.
PRIMARY PURPOSE: The HIPPY Home Visitor develops partnerships with parents of 3-, 4- and 5-year-old children to enable the parent to work directly with their child on developmentally appropriate, skill-building activities. The Home Visitor helps parents understand early childhood development concepts and terminology that increases the parent's ability to observe and understand their child's learning process.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS & PROVISIONS:
- HIPPY USA is subject to Federal guidelines and AmeriCorps funding, therefore under the AmeriCorps member guidelines and requirements, the prospective applicant must fulfill the following requirement to be entitled for membership and become eligible for such funding.
- A member must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident (Proof can include: N-560, N-561, N-570, I -551, or I-90)
- Position is available for a 4 Year Term due to AmeriCorps membership requirements.
- HIPPY Home Instructors (AmeriCorps Members) receive Educational grant funds disbursed to educational institution of choice at the end of the academic school year.
- At the time of the HIPPY Program onboarding and orientation, the candidates must fulfill all requirements to become an AmeriCorps member.
- Possess a valid Texas class c driver’s license and proof of insurance.
- Must have reliable transportation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education:
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Good oral expression, reading, and writing ability
- Demonstrate potential for leadership
- Organizational skills
- Be comfortable visiting homes in the community
- Ability to work in group settings and deal with conflict
- Current or previous HIPPY parent (preferred)
- Bilingual preferred but not required (Spanish or other languages)
Minimum Experience:
- Experience working with children/students or parents
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Participate in staff development as required by HIPPY USA, Texas HIPPY, AmeriCorps, and Irving ISD for the purpose of personal and professional growth.
- Meet with assigned HIPPY parents on a weekly basis, in the home or in the HIPPY office. Home instructor will use role-play as a technique to explain curriculum packets to parents.
- Meet with coordinators on a weekly basis for training, report family progress and parent participation in the schools.
- Maintain and update HIPPY family files and enter information on to the web-based data tracking system (Visit Tracker).
- Enter and update home visit, parent meeting, and field trip attendance into web-based data tracking (Visit Tracker).
- Participate in all regular HIPPY sponsored activities (i.e. Field trips, End of Year celebrations, Recruitment events, TEXAS HIPPY Kick Off), etc.).
- Assist in the preparation, supervision of children, and clean up after monthly parent meetings as assigned by the coordinators
- Work with HIPPY Coordinators and Parent Involvement Coordinators to increase parent involvement.
- Refer appropriate families in need of information/assistance to the HIPPY Coordinator/Specialist for evaluation and social services referrals as needed.
- Assist in the office and other duties as requested by the coordinators.
