REPORTS TO:  Director of Information Systems   PAY GRADE:  Central Office Technology 05

PRIMARY PURPOSE:        This position will provide District-wide report writing services and will be responsible for providing students and staff with the necessary automated tools and services that are mandated by the State, essential for sound business practice, and dictated by excellence in education. This includes managing, implementing, trouble-shooting, and maintaining the various software applications that are utilized within the District.  The responsibility for this position also include supporting the Technology website with web design, videos, and documentation for supported applications. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Minimum Education/Certification: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Information or Computer Science or related field with equivalent experience, or a proven record of success in providing automated student and/or business services.
  • Experience in an Educational environment preferred.

 

Special Knowledge/Skills

 

  • General knowledge and experience in an education setting including but not limited to grade books, course catalogs, master scheduling, curriculum, digital resources, student services and other student related information.
  • Preferred knowledge of educational systems including Student Registration, Attendance, Discipline Management, Grade Reporting, Health Record Keeping, Student Services and Program Tracking, Scheduling, Teacher and Student Portals, Curriculum, Digital Resources and PEIMS (System management experience preferred)
  • Ability to design user friendly websites and create videos and documentation for training purposes.
  • Proven background using web-based Business Intelligence tools and report writers (e.g. Cognos Query Studio, Report Studio, Framework Manager, Crystal, etc.)
  • Excellent knowledge of computer applications (multi-platform preferred)
  • Management and understanding of data related to student, teacher, and district information systems
  • Experience using technology to improve teaching and learning
  • Ability to pick up new technology skills quickly
  • Ability to perform under pressure and meet deadlines established according to District priorities

Minimum Experience

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience integrating technology in educational settings.
  • Preferred 2-5 years of recent, progressive experience in the analysis, design, testing, and deployment of software in educational settings.

 

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

  1. Create reports, manage, and update report library for supported systems using district reporting tools such as Crystal Reports, Cognos, or SSRS.
  2. Manage, maintain, and enhance programs and processes for assigned applications. 
  3. Create, install, and test all set-ups for student/teacher systems including but not limited to grade books, curriculum, digital resources, student services and other student related systems as assigned.
  4. Test various computer programs and their behavior under all operating environments.
  5. Implement changes to existing systems caused by statutory changes or new ideas submitted by users. 
  6. Manage users and their resources / security levels throughout the year.
  7. Assist with and/or conduct training programs as needed.
  8. Review existing software systems and recommend refinements, improvements, and enhancements to ensure most efficient methods are employed.
  9. Monitor the use and progress of system’s users, identify problems encountered, suggest resolutions, and resolve those problems.
  10. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with campus and department personnel to promote the effective use of technology.
  11. Analyze system problems and logs cases with Vendors as necessary. Tests fixes from vendors as necessary.
  12. Manage incidents and requests reported from district personnel to ensure timely and accurate responses.
  13. Collaborates with other departments to ensure successful project implementation.
  14. Manage/maintain the Technology web site in support of the Technology department.
  15. Maintains documentation on district supported application system’s processes and procedures.
  16. Communicates with supervisor and co-workers on a regular basis.
  17. Demonstrates positive customer service relationships.
  18. Requires continuous updating of knowledge through self-study, self-discovery, tutorials, and classes.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:   Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Ability and availability to remotely trouble-shoot and resolve problems during off-hours. Exhibit self-motivation and the ability to generate and meet program objectives and the persistence to ensure high levels of quality and effectiveness. Should constantly demonstrate proactive attitude in securing information, keep informed of software modifications and enhancements, assess impact of technical documentation, anticipate customer needs, and recommend solutions
