JOB TITLE:  Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Specialist                         

WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt                          

REPORTS TO:  Executive Director of Intervention Services                                 

PAY GRADE:  Teacher Salary + 8 days                                                                                            

DEPARTMENT:  Intervention Services

This position is eligible for a Chapter 21 contract.

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE : To assist with the development and implementation of the district Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) model by supporting campuses with utilizing best practices for interventions

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Minimum Education/Certification: 

  • Valid Texas teaching certificate
  • ESL Supplement preferred
  • Bilingual preferred

 

            Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Experience working with students with diverse backgrounds and learning needs
  • Experience with administering reading assessments (running/reading records, reading inventories, computer adaptive assessments)
  • Ability to use data to make appropriate instructional decisions
  • Knowledge of best practices in the area of reading interventions
  • Knowledge of state and federal requirements and guidelines for response to intervention
  • General knowledge of elementary literacy curriculums
  • Experience with instructional resources such as (LLI – elementary; Read 180- Secondary)
  • Ability to plan and present professional development
  • Ability to lead and facilitate professional learning communities
  • Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds
  • Knowledge of state and district content standards and knowledge of district school improvement initiatives, including content standards, effective instruction, and assessment practices
  • Skills in collaboration, curriculum development, and the use of data to improve student success

 

 

Minimum Experience

At least three (3) years of teaching experience

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

  1. Assist with district MTSS model and train district personnel
  2. Work directly with campus interventionists and classroom teachers on best practices in reading instruction/intervention, using data to select targeted interventions, and student monitoring
  3. Make recommendations to schools on appropriate resources to support MTSS programs
  4. Analyze MTSS services for effectiveness and implement appropriate changes when necessary to improve the overall program
  5. Review district reading data and assist campuses with improving student progress and achievement
  6. Support district and campus personnel with MTSS application of student data management system (eSTAR)
  7. Plan, develop, and present trainings on MTSS
  8. Stay abreast of current research by practice, by attending conferences, workshops, and reading professional literature in the areas of reading
  9. Work cooperatively with all members of Learning Services
  10. Communicate with other administrative departments as appropriate
  11. Abide by the Professional Code of Ethics
  12. Other duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:   Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Frequent in-district and occasional in-state or national travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.

 

Safety:  Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidents immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
