Primary Purpose: Performs activities relative to patching, prepping, and painting all types of surfaces within schools, facilities, and other District properties.
Qualifications: Education/Certification
High School Diploma or GED, preferred. Experience in painting industry may be accepted in lieu of education requirements Valid Class C Texas driver’s license and proof of insurability with District insurance carrier
Special Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of all commercial and residential painting equipment and techniques Knowledge of paints and various surfaces and capacity for patching and prepping related to oil-based resins and long-term contact with other chemicals affecting paint applications Ability to collaborate with other trades to schedule work requiring wall and surface restorations and prepping for coatings and coverings Ability to read and follow verbal and written instructions Effective organizational, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills Ability to utilize technology resources relevant to position
Experience
Minimum three years painter experience, preferably in education environment Major Responsibilities and Duties: Painting Perform daily work assignments that require patching, prepping and painting walls, floors, ceilings and other surfaces at campuses, facilities and other District property based on safety, necessity, routine or required scheduling, and special and sporting events. Perform work with sprayers and be familiar with painting methodologies (feathering and blends) as well as different surface prep styles (splotching, patterns, etc.) to match existing surface patterns when repairing surfaces for final paint applications. Assist with on-the-job training and instructions as needed. Hang wall paper and wall coverings when necessary. Inspect work related to surface repairs and patching activities and painting to make sure tasks are completed or roped off for safety, and keep administrators aware of actions in and around campuses prior to leaving job site. Collaborate with other facilities departments and staff to schedule painting of walls and surface restorations.
Records and Reports Complete written records of daily activities and prepare and submit work order completion reports to track materials used and time-on-tasks explanations. Assist in tracking vehicle and equipment operating hours to determine preventative maintenance schedule. Other Respond in a timely manner when contacted regarding urgent situations or emergencies (during or outside of normal business hours) Exhibit behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible; and serve as a role model for staff and public. Perform other duties as assigned. Safety Practice a high standard of work and site safety in the performance of all duties and abide by District policies and procedures. Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety. Supervisory Responsibilities: As needed supervise district staff during summer related projects.
