Description

Primary Purpose:

Perform repairs to electrical and mechanical equipment used in the Operations Department and manage the District’s laundry facility.


Qualifications:
Education/Certification

High School Diploma or GED, preferred
Valid Texas Class C driver’s license and proof of insurability with District insurance carrier

 

Special Knowledge/Skills

Proficient in electrical and mechanical equipment repair
Ability to read and understand operating instructions and write reports
Aptitude for successful completion of tasks
Ability to operate cleaning equipment, lift heavy equipment, and properly handle cleaning supplies
Ability to distinguish basic colors
Strong organizational, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills
Ability to speak and understand English and Spanish, preferred

 

Experience

Six months of electrical and mechanical equipment repair experience

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Maintenance, Repair and Inventory

1. Repair electrical appliances and mechanical equipment used in custodial and laundry services.

2. Provide routine maintenance and preventive care of equipment, and develop a system for emergency repair.

3. Recommend appropriate stock levels and maintain inventory of repair parts, supplies, and equipment.

Laundry

4. Manage the daily operations of the District’s laundry facility

5. Ensure laundering machines and equipment are operated according to manufacturer guidelines.

6. Ensure the pickup and delivery of articles for laundering; and appropriate sorting, loading, washing, soaking, drying, and folding of laundry.

 

Other

7. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible; and serve as a role model for staff, students, and public

8. Assist custodial staff as needed.

9. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Safety

10. Ensure appropriate use and safety in handling laundry chemicals.

11. Inspect tools, machines and equipment for safety and efficiency, and operate according to established safety procedures. Follow safety procedures and techniques to perform duties, including lifting, and climbing. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.

12. Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.

Tools/Equipment Used: Electrical repair equipment and tools; carpentry, plumbing and hand tools; commercial washers, dryers, and extractors; buffer, stripper, wet/dry vacuum cleaner, shampooer, cleaning chemicals, forklift, pallet jack, district vehicles
Posture: Frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting
Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladder, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, overhead reaching; frequent driving
Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance, 30-55 pounds with assistance, and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance, on a daily basis
Visual: Use of depth perception; distinguish basic colors
Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to hot and cold temperature and humid conditions, electrical hazards, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise and vibration; work around moving objects and vehicles, on building roofs, ladders and scaffolding, pallet jacks and lift equipment; occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel
