Primary Purpose: Install and maintain a variety of locking and security devices and systems in a properly functioning state and in compliance with District, city and state guidelines to provide safety and protection.
Qualifications: Education/Certification
High School Diploma or GED, preferred Valid Texas Class C driver’s license and proof of insurability with District insurance carrier
Special Knowledge/Skills
Working knowledge and ability to install and operate locks and locking mechanisms Working knowledge of security systems, hard keys, and keyless entry systems Ability to follow oral and written instructions Effective organizational, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills Ability to utilize technology resources relevant to position
Experience
Minimum three years locksmith experience, and preferably in educational environment
Major Responsibilities and Duties: Security and Locking Systems Perform daily work assignments that require matching key blanks and cutting new or additional keys at campuses, facilities, and other District properties based on factors that include but are not limited to: safety, routine or required scheduling, special and sporting events, and conditions that impact insurance. Set up and maintain master key systems that coincide with limited and unlimited access as determined by approved by facilities management. Install and repair locks and locking devises; perform all locksmith-related functions; follow security guidelines; and safeguard keys, blanks, picks and security-sensitive equipment, materials, and supplies. Inspect all lock, security, and related work; ensure tasks are completed or property is adequately protected or roped off and keep campus administrator aware of actions in and around the campus prior leaving job site. Collaborate with others performing facilities related projects; schedule key and lock work when temporary access or limited access is needed. Records and Reports Maintain accurate records related to lock operations, repairs, malfunctions, and replacements. Track operating hours of vehicles and equipment to determine and implement preventative maintenance schedule. Complete written records of daily activities; prepare and submit work order completion reports to track materials used and time-on-tasks explanations.
Other Respond in a timely manner when contacted regarding urgent situations or emergencies (during or outside of normal business hours) Exhibit behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible; and serve as role model for staff and public. Perform other duties as assigned.
Safety Maintain advanced level of confidentiality, code of ethics, and District policies. Practice a high standard of safety and site clean-up in the performance of all duties. Contributes to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
