PAY GRADE: Facilities 5

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Maintain the District’s landscape irrigation systems in a properly functioning state and perform all duties necessary to operate the irrigation systems in accordance with District and City of Irving guidelines for proper irrigation of lawns and landscapes.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education/Certification:
Irrigator license is preferred. Employee must be able to read, comprehend and execute verbal and written instructions. Employee must be able to prepare written reports necessary to successfully complete all appointed tasks. Other qualifications and/or experience will be considered.

Special Knowledge/Skills:
• Demonstrated ability and working knowledge of commercial irrigation systems and all types of associated control devices.
• Demonstrated ability and working knowledge of underground plumbing systems.
• Demonstrated ability and working knowledge of all equipment used in the performance of assigned duties related to the position.
• Possess a valid Texas Class C Driver’s License and prove insurability with the District’s insurance carrier.
• Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible, and serve as a role model for all district employees and staff.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as may be appropriate and acceptable.

 

Minimum Experience:
Two years’ experience working as an Irrigation Technician, Sprinkler Technician, or other plumbing related work as deemed acceptable.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
• Perform the assigned duties designated by the Grounds Manager.
• Provide job-related instruction and training to Irrigation Helper.
• Maintain and safely operate all equipment assigned to the position.
• Prepare and submit work orders, vehicle reports, and daily log sheets as required.
• Perform necessary repairs to maintain the district’s irrigation systems in a properly functioning state including repair or replacement of damaged or worn irrigation pipe, heads, valves and control devices.
• Maintain accurate record of work performed and systems installed.
• Maintain accurate record of system testing, operation scheduling and proper irrigation patterning.
• Maintain irrigation system operation schedules as dictated by weather conditions to insure proper conservation and safety measures.
• Responsible for ordering and receiving all materials and supplies needed to fulfill the assigned tasks.
• Comply with all required laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances applicable to the installation, maintenance and operation of all underground and above-ground irrigation systems.
• Practice high standards of safety and good housekeeping skills in all work-related areas and leave all work areas in a clean and orderly manner upon completion of the job.
• Any other duties as may be directed by your immediate supervisor and/or any other supervisor within your line of authority.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSBILITIES:
No supervisory responsibilities.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Frequent in-district and occasional in-state or national travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.

Safety: Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
